Mary joined Eden Used Auto Parts back in June of 2007 and we’re glad she did! An Eastern Shore gal all her life, Mary was born in Crisfield and raised in Marion. She’s been working in the auto parts, gas station and dealership fields all her life, beginning with Grant’s Texaco in 1980 – she was hired to answer phones, but ended up running the place, doing everything and then some. She moved on to Carway Chrysler and stayed as Parts Manager for 20 years until the owner passed away and the dealership was sold. She also was a service writer for an auto repair shop so as you can see, Mary loves the automotive field. She now lives in Delaware with her husband of 25 years Edward; she has four children and five grandchildren who are all in the area. Asked about what she likes the most about Brandywine Mary replied “fair pay and of course the people that I work with.” Thanks for joining Brandywine, Mary!
With many vehicles today having extensive and elaborate electrical systems, it is very important in keeping up with your battery and charging systems. Excessive heat and over-charging shorten the life of a battery. Heat causes battery fluid to evaporate, which then damages the internal structure of the battery. A malfunctioning component in the charging system, usually the voltage regulator, allows too high a charging rate, which will eventually destroy a battery.
To get the most life out of a battery, it is recommended to have the electrical system checked every 6000 miles to make sure it is charging at the correct rate. If your car’s battery is the type that needs to be topped off, check it often, especially in hot weather and add distilled water if necessary. Keep the top of the battery clean. Dirt can become a conductor, which drains battery power. If corrosion accumulates on battery terminals, it becomes an insulator and inhibits the current flow.

Not only is a motto of “Safety First” ideal in preventing injuries or accidents at work, it’s also beneficial for reducing the costs associated with injuries and accidents, leading the company to save on medical dollars. Why worry about somebody else getting hurt at work? Injuries affect EVERYBODY at work, from the manager who has to adjust work loads and tasks to the fellow co-worker who has to take up the slack of someone who can’t work due to an injury. The numbers are staggering! Overall, it has been estimated that work-related injuries cost between $40 and $45 BILLION, that’s over $1 billion being paid for medical bills and compensaion EVERY WEEK. We all know accidents and injuries happen – but it is up to YOU to report unsafe work habits if you see any, and to FOCUS every day you are at work to ANTICIPATE and be ahead of the game by working safely each and every day. This is important! Since you do the same thing every day, it becomes routine — this is where you might start to experience a “lack of attention”. Remember, someone you love wants to see you come home every night!
